Hyderabad: Several Congress activists were taken into preventive custody when they staged a protest in front of the office of the Hyderabad Police Commissioner demanding a case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his derogatory comments against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
Congress supporters and senior party leaders including Anjan Kumar Yadav, Kodanda Reddy and others came to the Hyderabad CP office and staged a sit-in protest. The police, who were present in large numbers, took them into custody and shifted them to the Narayanguda police station.
The Congress leaders lodged complaints against the Assam Chief Minister at police stations across the State and demanded that the police book cases against him. Congress supporters were taken into custody at other places in the city too.
Tension prevailed for a while near the Bharatiya Janata Party office at Nampally when Congress supporters tried to stage a protest. However, the police took them into custody. An attempt was also made to lay siege to the DGP’s office by NSUI activists, but the police foiled it.
