Kothagudem: A massive protest rally was taken by the district Congress leaders here on Thursday demanding the State and Central governments to take steps to procure entire paddy produced by farmers in the State.

The rally was led by the TPCC Vikalangula Vibhagam Chairman Muthineni Veeraiah and district Congress leader Naga Seetharamulu. Speaking to the media persons, they demanded the governments to prevent irregularities in paddy procurement.

The Modi government which was working for the corporate forces has been harming the interests of the farming community by introducing anti-farmer laws. The Centre included paddy in the list of crops recommended for MSP but was refusing to purchase paddy, Veeraiah said.

The Centre has failed to implement recommendations made in as many as 30 expert reports to improve agriculture in the country. In addition to that the Centre tried to frighten farmers with black laws it introduced, he alleged.

As many as 8432 farmers had committed suicides in the State but the government was giving false statements on number of deaths to avoid paying compensation to their families, the TPCC leader complained.

Congress leader A Krishna, JG Showry, Dr. Ramachandra Naik, women’s wing leaders T Prasanna, Vijayalakshmi, SC Cell leader Ch Ravi, minority wing leader Mahmood Khan and others were present.
