Congress targeting Goud community, says former Minister Srinivas Goud

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Srinivas Goud accused the Congress government of conspiring to shut down toddy shops, in contrast to the previous BRS government's decision to reopen them under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He also criticized the government for failing to honor promises, including increasing reservations for the Goud community in liquor shop allocations and erecting a statue of Sardar Sarvai Papanna on Tank Bund.

Hyderabad: Former Minister V Srinivas Goud charged the Congress government in Telangana with targeting the Goud community through unjust actions and unfulfilled promises. He said Excise officials were unfairly raiding toddy shops, filing cases and falsely linking them to illicit liquor.

“If these attacks continue, we will organise a massive protest in Hyderabad with one lakh people,” he warned.

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Srinivas Goud said while the previous BRS government reopened toddy shops under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership, the Congress government was conspiring to shut them down. He also criticised the government for ignoring promises such as increasing reservations for the Goud community in liquor shop allocations and erecting Sardar Sarvai Papanna’s statue on Tank Bund.

He further pointed out the neglect of toddy tappers, who were denied ex gratia in accidental deaths, and questioned the lack of action against adulterated milk entering Telangana.
