Nalgonda: Tension prevailed at Munugode in the district on Wednesday when some Congress workers tried to stop the convoy of Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy at the main centre demanding implementation of Telangana Dalit Bandhu scheme in their Assembly constituency.

Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy planned to hold a protest in the constituency headquarters with 10,000 dailts demanding that the State government implement Dalit Bandhu in Munugode. He had earlier warned that Congress workers will not allow Jagadish Reddy to step into Munugode constituency “till he extends cooperation for the development of the Assembly constituency.”

The government had announced that the Dalit Bandhu scheme would be implemented as a pilot project in Huzurabad Assembly constituency initially. Subsequently, the scheme would be implemented across the State covering all the constituencies.

Following Jagadish Reddy’s scheduled visit to Munugode to participate in an official programme, a large number of policemen were deployed in constituency. In all, 300 policemen including four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 10 Circle Inspectors and 30 Sub-Inspectors were deployed in Munugode as a precautionary measure. The police also took several Congress leaders in Munugode, Nalgonda and Nakrekal into preventive custody.

Tension prevailed when a group of Congress workers made a vain effort to stop the Minister’s convoy at the main centre of Munugode. The police swung into action and shifted them to the police station. The Congress workers staged a protest at the police station displaying placards demanding implementation of Dalit Bandhu in Munugode Assembly constituency.

The police took Rajagopal Reddy, who was coming to Munugode, into preventive custody on the outskirts of Hyderbad and shifted him to a police station.
