Hyderabad: The LB Nagar police on Monday arrested a police constable on charges of raping a woman.
The cop, D Ramulu (29), a resident of Jawaharnagar in Narsingi and currently posted at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, was an acquaintance of the 26-year-old victim. Police said they met when the victim had come to the city for Sub-inspector coaching in 2017, and they soon became friends. During this, they started moving intimately and Ramulu proposed to her.
“With a promise to marry, he deceived her and raped her several times. Eventually, he was selected as police constable in 2020 and joined the force after the training. However, when the victim recently asked him about the marriage plan, he refused to marry and started avoiding her,” an official said.
Based on a complaint from the woman, the LB Nagar police booked a case and arrested Ramulu.
