Hyderabad: A delegation of construction material suppliers from the city met All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen, president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday and complained about alleged harassment of the Telangana police and continuing raids.

The construction material suppliers alleged the police teams were conducting raids on their premises on pretext of illegal sand dumping and sale. They alleged that despite having waybills the police were stopping and seizing small vehicles transporting sand to construction sites in the city. Cases are being booked by the police against them, they alleged.

A supplier, from Bahadurpura explained that sand is supplied based on orders received from individuals based on their need. “Not everybody has requirement of 8 to 10 tonnes of the sand. Some want only a small auto rickshaw load; while some need a small tipper load and they approach us for it. We purchase it from the suppliers after checking the document. There are no illegal dealings,” he said.

The traders argue it was not possible for big trucks carrying big load of sand to transport it to construction sites particularly in older parts of the city considering the narrow roads and lanes. “If the sand is dumped on main road shifting it to a construction site in some lane in colony would involve huge cost and traffic police and GHMC imposes fines for traffic obstruction,” pointed out another trader.

Asaduddin Owaisi spoke to Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and reminded that two MLAs of AIMIM had met her recently and represented the problems faced by construction material supplier. He requested her to instruct the police commissioners of Hyderabad, Rachakonda and Cyberabad.

Owaisi also spoke to Telangana DGP and other officials and it is learnt, he forwarded the waybills and other related documents to police officials complaining that despite having proper documents, the police were imposing registering cases and seizing the vehicles.
