Adilabad: A contractor who was arrested for allegedly harassing the husband of a beneficiary of the Indiramma housing scheme escaped from police custody in Boath mandal centre on Thursday night, creating a flutter.

The contractor, Kamble Satyanarayana, managed to give the police a slip while in custody under the guise of using the washroom at the Boath police station after having dinner. He was arrested after a case was registered against him for tying Lokande Maruthi, husband of Deeksha, to a pole for refusing to pay Rs 1 lakh at Kota village in Sonala mandal recently.

It was learnt that Satyanarayana fled to Maharashtra to evade arrest. Special teams have been formed to nab the contractor. His name was blacklisted following the case registered against him.

On Thursday, Deeksha alleged that Satyanarayana had built their house with poor quality materials but was forcing them to sign a promissory note for payment of Rs 6.30 lakh against the estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh, besides humiliating her husband.
