Hyderabad: The corporate sector is throwing open its doors to retired police officials, offering them good positions with attractive salary packages.
Right from officers who retired while they were of the rank of an Inspector General of Police, to those who stepped out of service while they were Deputy Superintendents of Police, many officials are now holding good positions in various corporate companies engaged in real estate, security management, hospitals and other sectors.
Thanks to their expertise gained during decades of service in the Police Department, the exposure to various challenges, both on the administrative and law and order front is helping many bag jobs with monthly salaries going up to Rs 1 lakh plus other perks and sometimes even beyond that.
“Companies are approaching the police officials who hold good track record months before superannuation and offering them jobs. A few are also approaching senior officials in the department and seeking their help in finding a suitable candidate,” a retired Additional DCP rank official, who now works for a security firm, said.
Another official, who retired from the City Police when he was of the DySP rank and works as a legal advisor now, said companies were keen to appoint police officials because of their vast work experience covering various issues and challenges.
“Policing is not just about booking cases. In fact, we deal with every situation and also use all psychological techniques including negotiations, counseling and effective communication. So, private companies recognise our experience and are using us as troubleshooters in their day-to-day operations,” he said.
The presence of police officials also act as deterrent for shady characters in companies.
“We also help firms with financial management, recoveries and to plug pilferages. Moreover, our rapport and contacts with people of diverse fields helps the companies to a great extent in expanding their business and troubleshooting any challenge,” explained another senior police official who retired recently.
Officials consider that working with the younger people is another great experience as they will stay away from post retirement phobia, boredom and a whole lot of other issues.
