Hyderabad: The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) Limited Deputy General Manager P Amarnath Reddy on Wednesday requested the Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao to allocate 2,000 square yards of government land free of cost in Warangal town to house the office and carry out various activities.

In a letter submitted to the Minister, Amarnath Reddy said the CCI was functioning from a rented building since its inception in 1990 and was paying a huge rent resulting in a financial burden on it. The cotton-growing area was also increasing in Warangal jurisdiction every year.

During the current year, the Warangal branch office of CCI procured 4,76,778,5.21 quintals of cotton and released Rs 2,716.18 crore directly into farmers account and 2,28,624 farmers benefited and still the Minimum Support Price process was in progress, Reddy said.

He urged the Minister to allocate land to CCI to enable it to construct a building to accommodate around 90 employees and set up a cotton testing lab and godown for storing cotton samples apart from constructing a conference hall to hold field review meetings and training programmes.
