Mancherial ACP seizing cash and mobiles phones of gamblers during a raid held in Luxettipet town on Saturday night.
Mancherial: In two different incidents, 19 persons including a Councillor and public servants were arrested on the charges of gambling in Luxettipet and Bellampalli towns on Saturday night. As many 19 mobile phones and Rs 1.06 lakh in cash and playing cards were seized from them during the raids.
Mancherial Assistant Commissioner of Police Akhil Mahajan said that in the first instance, 10 persons were taken into custody by sleuths of a Task Force, when they were involved in the offence at a room of a drug store, following a tip-off.
The accused were identified as Bakam Lachanna, former Sarpanch of Modela village in Luxettipet mandal, Kethireddy Jaganmohan Reddy, an ex-agriculture market chairman, Oruganti Sreekanth, Councillor of 9th Ward, Gurrala Srinivas Reddy, a sub-station operator of NPDCL, Kursinga Venkat Rao, a government teacher, Syed Shahid, a co-opted member of Luxettipet municipality, Lingala Tirupathi, former Sarpanch and Mongani Sattaiah from of Velganur mandal in Dandepalli, Sabeer Ahmed of Gopal Wada in Luxettipet and Motapalkula Sattaiah belonging to Korvichelma village in Dandepalli mandal.
In the second incident at Bellampalli, the arrested persons are Fayaz, a businessman, Gudnala Arun, a private employee, S Chary, a businessman, Eligeti Shyam, daily wage earner, Nadam Kishan, businessman, MD Younus, a private employee, Rallabandi Srikanth, a businessman, Mutte Praveen, private employee and Eligeti Shyam Kumar, an auto-rickshaw driver, all belong to different parts of Bellampalli town. They were found to be secretly indulging in gambling in a room in Hanumanbasti area.
The IPS officer warned that stringent action would be taken against those who indulge in illegal activities such as gambling, smuggling of ganja and gutkha. Task Force Sub-Inspector Lachanna, Head Constable Diwakar and staffers Sampath and Srinivas took part in the operation.
