Adilabad: A councilor was arrested on Friday for allegedly duping a tribal man under the pretext of selling him a registered house site and constructing a house on it.
Adilabad DSP L Jeveen Reddy said Thokala Naresh, a former builder and currently a councilor, was arrested for allegedly cheating Madavi Gopal by selling him a registered property in LBS Nagar in the town. Naresh had been absconding since the arrests of Gatika Laxman and Gatika Kranthi Kumar, who had allegedly duped Gopal earlier.
According to the police, Naresh allegedly cheated Gopal of Rs 67.20 lakh by selling the property and promising to construct a house. He allegedly resold the house site for Rs 53.50 lakh and collected another Rs 13.70 lakh by promising to build a house.
Police said Naresh had deliberately concealed the fact that the house site had already been sold to another person.
Gopal realised he had been cheated when the owner of the site objected to the construction. He approached the police, who registered a case and took up an investigation.
