Khammam: With an objective of controlling smuggling and selling of narcotic drugs and ganja in the district Khammam police have planned to set up a counter intelligence cell. Commissioner of Police (CP) Vishnu S Warrier informed that the district police were working to control narcotic drugs by setting up a counter-intelligence cell on the lines of Greyhounds forces.
In view of the directions from the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who wanted an all out war against drugs smuggling and use, the district police have launched special efforts to control drug use. The CP held a video conference with senior officials in that connection and told them to move ahead with a solid plan to stop cannabis smuggling and use and to make Khammam district free from drug menace.
From Home Guards to top officials have to strive to eradicate use of ganja and other drugs not just as a duty but also as a social responsibility. Officers who showed good performance would be rewarded and incentives would be given, he said. Through the Drug Offenders Profile, Analysis and Monitoring System (DOPAMS) serious efforts would be made to eradicate the origins of those who promote organised crime and drug smuggling.
Warrier said that steps were taken to identify drug addicts, give them de-addiction treatment and identify and eradicate drug network links. Villagers should ensure that cannabis was not cultivated in their villages and if anyone cultivates ganja in the district report would be sent to the government to cancel the subsidies provided to them. Awareness meetings with students, teachers, college managements, elected members, auto and lorry unions members would be held. If any police or excise official was found to be involved in drugs cases departmental action would be taken against such officers.
The CP appealed to the people to inform police by dialing 100 or on police WhatsApp number 7901144600 if they found anyone smuggling or selling ganja or other drugs.
