Couple attempts suicide after officials stop minor daughter’s marriage in Telangana’s Medak

Medak: A couple allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at Sri Vanadurga Bhavani Temple in Edupayala on Tuesday, reportedly depressed after authorities stopped the marriage of their underage daughter.
The couple, Shiva and Jyothi from Bodulagudem in Veldurthi mandal, had arranged their minor daughter’s marriage with a man. Officials from the Women and Child Welfare Department intervened, stopped the marriage, and shifted the girl to Balasadan in Medak.
Following the intervention, the couple allegedly attempted to end their lives at the temple premises. Locals who noticed their condition alerted authorities and shifted them to a government hospital. As their condition turned critical, they were later moved to a private hospital in Hyderabad for further treatment.
Police have registered a case and an investigation is under way.
