Hyderabad: A couple was found dead in a star hotel near Greenlands in Begumpet here on Saturday. They are suspected to have committed suicide by consuming poison, police said. The couple was identified as Vijay Kumar (35), a private employee, and Shyamala Devi (34), a housewife, both from Puducherry.
According to the Punjagutta police, the two, suspected to have been in an extramarital affair, were reported missing a week ago from their homes. They had checked into the hotel on May 8. According to the hotel staff, they were seen going out a couple of times in the last one week, but were indoors on Saturday.
“Since morning, the hotel staff got no calls from the room ordering for food or asking for any service. Even till the evening, there was no information about their whereabouts, so the staff went to the room to check. Even after repeated knocking, there was no response from inside,” police said, adding that the hotel then alerted the police, who reached the spot and opened the door. The two were found lying dead.
“It is suspected they mixed unknown poisonous substances in eatables and consumed it,” police said adding that a suicide note written in Tamil was found in the room. The Punjagutta police are investigating.
