Couple from Siddipet held after alleged suicide attempt near Telangana Secretariat over land dispute

A couple from Siddipet allegedly attempted suicide near the Telangana Secretariat by pouring petrol on themselves over an ongoing land dispute. Alert police personnel intervened in time, preventing the self-immolation attempt and later taking the duo into custody for questioning.

Hyderabad: A couple from Siddipet allegedly attempted suicide near the Telangana Secretariat on Wednesday.

The couple whose identity was not immediately known, attempted suicide by pouring petrol on themselves, claiming they were not receiving justice in an ongoing land dispute.


According to information available, the couple protested near the Secretariat and threatened to end their lives. Alert police personnel noticed their actions and immediately intervened, snatching away a matchbox before they could set themselves ablaze.

Officers then poured water on them and prevented the attempt.

The couple was taken to a police station for questioning.

They reportedly told authorities that they were driven to desperation due to unresolved issues related to their agricultural land dispute.
