Mancherial: A couple was arrested for their alleged involvement in house burglaries in different parts of Mancherial town, here on Monday. Gold ornaments weighing 72.7 grams, 414 grams of silver ornaments and Rs 9,000 were recovered from them. The value of the jewellery is estimated to be around Rs 4 lakh.
Mancherial Assistant Commissioner of Police Akhil Mahajan said that the accused Tallapelli Dhanalaxmi (27), a daily earner and husband Tallapelli Prasad (28), a daily wager from Batwanpalli village in Bellampalli mandal.
The two were detained when moving suspiciously during a patrolling carried out by Mancherial Inspector B Narayana, Sub-Inspectors V Praveen Kumar, D Kiran Kumar, N Devaiah and Central Crime Station’s (CCS) policemen in the market area of Mancherial.
On being interrogated, Dhanalaxmi and Prasad admitted to committing the offence to lead a lavish lifestyle for the past a year. They admitted that they gained entry into houses by breaking locks and before decamping with gold and silver ornaments from seven residences located in the town. Prasad revealed that he ventured into burglary after suffering losses in the cool drink business.
Dhanalaxmi, a bangle seller was married to Prasad when they fell in love with each other in Vijayawada in the past. They were staying in a rented house at Iqbal Ahmednagar of Mancherial town for quite a long time.
The IPS officer commended Inspector Narayana, Sub-Inspectors Praveen Kumar, Kiran Kumar and Devaiah, head constables B Diwakar, constable belonging to CCS Srinivas for arresting the couple by showing spontaneity. He requested citizens to inform a nearby police station whenever they stay away from home for more than a day. He urged them to install CCTV to prevent burglaries.
