Hyderabad: A local court on Thursday sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing a minor girl in a case reported at Chandrayangutta in 2019.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on him.

The convict Abdul Qayyum of Chandrayangutta, in the guise of teaching Arabic, took the eight-year-old girl into a room in the house to a secluded spot and made sexual advances towards her. The frightened child raised an alarm, escaped and informed her family.

Based on the complaint, Chandrayangutta police booked a case and arrested Qayyum.
