COVA has urged educational institutions in Telangana to adopt its Compassionate Citizenship Program, which promotes social awareness, environmental consciousness and civic responsibility among students. Hyderabad: The Confederation of Voluntary Associations (COVA) on Wednesday urged educational institutions in Telangana to adopt and implement the Compassionate Citizenship Program to foster moral education and social accountability among young students.

The Compassionate Citizenship Program, which engages thousands of school students from all the districts of Telangana, was successfully implemented on a pilot basis by COVA. The initiative focuses on experiential learning, training children to analyze critical social issues such as elder care, environmental protection, and plastic-free campuses and formulate practical community solutions.

A multi-year statistical evaluation of the Citizenship Program highlighted measurable gains, documenting significant improvements in students’ overall social awareness, strong enhancements in environmental consciousness, and a demonstrable rise in civic responsibility and community participation, Mazher Hussain, COVA Peace Network, said.

Thanks to these successful outcomes and positive impact assessments from early rollout phases, organizers project a major scale-up. Authorities plan to expand the initiative to cover 3,000 schools across districts in Telangana, integrating it deeply into formal value education frameworks.

COVA in a press release said that expanding the Compassionate Citizenship Program is vital for equipping students with social advocacy skills, transforming them into empathetic citizens, and driving grassroots community development.
