Covaxin, Covishield to cost Rs 225 per dose

Hyderabad: A day before Covid vaccine booster shots become available to all adult population, prices of Covaxin and Covidshield have been reduced to Rs 225 per dose for private hospitals. Suchitra Ella, Co-Founder and Joint Managing Director of Covaxin maker Bharat Biotech announced the decision on the micro-blogging platform Twitter.
“We welcome the decision to make available precautionary dose for all adults. In consultation with the Central Government, we have decided to revise the price of Covaxin from Rs 1,250 to Rs 225 per dose, for private hospitals,” she said in the tweet.
Similarly, Adar Poonawalla, Chief Executive Officer of Serum Institute India, too said the price of Covishield is reduced to Rs 225 per dose. “We are pleased to announce that after discussion with the Central Government, SII has decided to revise the price of the Covishield vaccine for private hospitals from Rs 600 to Rs 225 per dose. We once again commend this decision from the Centre to open precautionary dose to all 18 ,” said Poonawalla in his tweet.
The Health Ministry on Friday announced the rollout of the precautionary third dose of the Covid vaccine for the 18 population at private vaccination centres from April 10. The private vaccination centres can charge up to a maximum of Rs 150 per dose as a service charge over and above the cost of the vaccines.
All those who have completed nine months or 39 weeks after receiving the second dose of the vaccine would be eligible for precautionary third dose. Someone who has received two doses of Covishield will have to take Covishield as the third dose. Similarly, those who have received two doses of Covaxin will have to take Covaxin as the precautionary dose. Priority groups such as healthcare workers, frontline workers, and people above 60 years are eligible to get the third dose free of cost at government vaccination centres. A confirmatory SMS of the third dose will be sent through the CoWin platform. A certificate can also be downloaded from the Arogya Setu app.
