Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday demanded that the State government include testing and treatment of Covid-19 in Aarogyasri scheme from Saturday.
Addressing the media at his residence on the occasion of releasing posters of Rahul Gandhi Cares programme, the TPCC president said both the Central and State governments had “miserably failed to contain the Covid second wave in the country.”
He alleged that rapid tests were failing to detect the virus; as a result, many persons with Covid are moving freely. The Congress president said to overcome this, the State government should conduct RTPCR tests on all the people of Telangana. “It would cost only Rs 4 crore to the exchequer,” he said.
Stating that Covid treatment is a major burden on the people, he said he was charged Rs 3 lakh for hospital stay and for medicines. ”I am a Member of Parliament and I can bear it. What about the common people?” Uttam questioned.
He said about Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh is being charged for general beds and oxygen beds respectively in private hospitals, forcing people to sell their assets.
“Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had announced in the Assembly that corona treatment would be added to Aarogyasri. But so far, he has not done it,” he said.
Uttam conveyed his wishes to the Muslim community on the occasion of Ramzan festival.
