Hyderabad: The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is under control and there is a clear indication of new cases reducing on a daily basis in Telangana. For the last 10 days, the epidemic curve is clearly flattening with obvious signs that cases are coming down, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said here on Wednesday.

Somesh Kumar, interacting with the media, said the State government strongly believed that there was a need to consider the livelihood of financially weaker sections of the society before deciding to impose lockdowns.

“If people take proper Covid precautions and the healthcare system of the State is able to reach out and provide medical facilities at the right time, there is no need to consider weekend or total lockdowns. There are many studies that have clearly said that lockdowns are not a solution. At present and even in future, this is the firm opinion of the State Government,” Somesh Kumar said.

The downward trend of Covid cases along with the outreach programme of the State government, which includes conducting fever surveys, providing treatment to all suspected Covid cases, irrespective of whether they test positive or not, distributing free Covid kits to such individuals, preparing enough stock of consumables, medicines, oxygen and creating beds with oxygen supply, should be enough for Telangana to beat the second wave of the pandemic, Somesh Kumar added.
