Hyderabad:Despite a spike in Covid-19 cases having prompted the State government to issue orders aimed at curbing the spread of the virus, people came out in large numbers across the city to celebrate Holi in a grand manner on Monday.

Though many had cancelled party plans and events at different venues after the government imposed restrictions on festivals to contain the spread of Covid-19, people in several areas chose to ignore the warnings. Ignoring safety measures like masks or maintaining physical distance, people, mostly youngsters, gathered in large numbers in several neighbourhoods for celebrations. Only a few people were seen wearing masks.

In some streets, locals played music to add to the mood of the festival of colours. Children and grownups alike were seen playing with water and colours on the occasion. As part of the Holi celebration, people threw ‘gulal’ and sprayed coloured water on each other. Though subdued than earlier years, this year’s Holi was on a larger scale than in 2020, when there were hardly any celebrations given the beginning of Covid-19.

Tollywood celebrities like Chiranjeevi, Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Varun Tej, Kajal Agarwal and Rashmika Mandanna wished the public and requested them to play Holi safely, while a few of them participated in the celebrations along with their family members.

“Wishing you all a very happy Holi. As the Covid-19 cases surge again… let’s be responsible and celebrate the festival with our family. A Holi filled more with love from your loved ones,” tweeted Mahesh Babu.
