CPI’s corporator elected as the first mayor of Kothagudem Municipal Corporation
CPI and Congress corporators elected Mood Ganesh and Siripurapu Lalitha Kumari as mayor and deputy mayor of Kothagudem Municipal Corporation. The victory was credited to the alliance between the two parties. Elections were also held in other municipalities of the district

Kothagudem: CPI corporator Mood Ganesh of the 20th division and Congress corporator Siripurapu Lalitha Kumari of the eighth division were elected unanimously as the first mayor and deputy mayor of the Kothagudem Municipal Corporation.
Additional Collector D Venugopal presided over the general body meeting and administered the oath to the elected members. Of the 60 corporators, 22 from Communist Party of India, 22 from Indian National Congress, one from Bharatiya Janata Party, one from Communist Party of India (Marxist) and six independents took the oath, while eight Bharat Rashtra Samithi corporators were absent.
Local MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao and R Raghuram Reddy attended the meeting as ex-officio members and cast their votes. Speaking to the media, Sambasiva Rao stated that the victory was possible due to the alliance with Congress.
CPI senior leader Palla Venkat Reddy stated that though there were several options before the party to win the mayor post, it was decided to go with Congress in view of their alliance. The mayor and deputy mayor posts would be shared for a period of two and a half years each, he said.
CPI MLC Nellinakti Satyam said that Congress and CPI could not contest the elections together due to various reasons. After the elections, both parties came together to continue their alliance in the corporation.
In Yellandu Municipality, the election of municipal chairperson and vice-chairperson was postponed since the ruling Congress party could not reach a consensus on the selection of candidates for the posts and several elected councillors did not attend on time.
The oath-taking ceremony of the councillors and the election will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, election officer RDO Madhu said. Congress councillors Dodda Kiran Mitra and Kondapalli Saritha are contesting for the chairperson post.
In Aswaraopet Municipality, Congress councillors Jupally Sasikala and Jupally Ramesh were elected as chairperson and vice-chairperson.
In Khammam district, Congress councillors Pokabathini Anitha and Tammineni Naveen were elected as Edulapuram Municipality chairperson and vice-chairperson. In Wyra, K Chandrakala and Katla Santosh, in Kallur, Mohan Naik and Seelam Koteshwari, in Sathupalli, Rahana Begum and Bonthu Sumalatha, and in Madhira, S Sujatha and Kona Dani Kumar of Congress were elected as chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively.
