Visakhapatnam: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has opposed sale of lands by the state government in the name of `Build AP Mission’ and demanded that it be stopped immediately and the lands utilised for people’s benefit.

CPM city secretary B. Ganga Rao noted that about 15 acres of land in Visakhapatnam and Guntur worth Rs.110 crore were being auctioned in the first phase on November 23 and the government had proposed to sell 1400 acres of land to net Rs.10,000 crore under a GO issued last week.

“They want to sell sites in the heart of the cities of Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Vijayawada, and Amaravati in two phases. In Visakhapatnam,11 acres near old TB Hospital beside the regioal Eye Hospital, four acres near Seethammadhara MRO office, another 14 acres in Waltair and
1.75 acres in Pedagadili are vacant. Now they have proposed to auction 3.82 acres in Fakir takiya and Aganampudi,” he said, adding that such steps were only retrograde and in no way helped development.
