CPM leaders arrested ahead of Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s house allotment programme

Police arrested CPM State Committee member Mudireddy Sudhakar Reddy and two district leaders in Nalgonda on Independence Day, anticipating questions over alleged irregularities in double-bedroom house allotments. CPM leaders condemned the arrests and accused the government of repression.

Nalgonda: Anticipating that CPM leaders would question Road and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy over alleged irregularities in the allotment of double-bedroom houses, police arrested them in Nalgonda on Independence Day.

The Minister is scheduled to distribute allotment orders to beneficiaries of double-bedroom houses. Fearing that CPM leaders would question ruling party leaders over alleged irregularities, particularly the exclusion of eligible candidates in favour of their associates, police arrested and detained CPM State Committee member Mudireddy Sudhakar Reddy and district leaders MD Salim and Avuta Ravinder.

The leaders had arrived at the CPM office to participate in Independence Day celebrations. Party leaders and cadres tried to prevent the police from making the arrests, leading to a heated altercation between police and CPM activists.

Despite the resistance, the CPM leaders were forcibly arrested. CPM District Secretary Thummala Veera Reddy and Town Secretary Dandampalli Sattaiah strongly condemned the arrests.

They described the arrests and detention on Independence Day as reprehensible. They said the CPM had been waging various struggles on public issues since the Congress government came to power.

They called upon people to rise against a government that claims to provide “people’s governance” (Praja Palana) but was allegedly engaging in a “tyrannical rule.”
