Hyderabad: It is only after the formation of Telangana as a separate State that the festival of Bathukamma is being celebrated officially, with the celebrations now being on a global level, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said on Tuesday, pointing out that the credit of recognising and promoting the State’s true traditions went to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

“Besides officially celebrating it, the State government is also distributing sarees ahead of the festival,” the Minister said after inspecting the arrangements of Saddula Bathukamma at PV Narasimha Rao Marg and surrounding areas.

He also said that many women would participate in the Saddula Bathukamma events being organised at Ambedkar Nagar, Karbala Maidan, Rani Gunj and PV Ghat on Wednesday.

Departments including the Police, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Roads & Buildings Department were instructed to make arrangements for smooth conduct of the celebrations. The officials were also asked to take up works pertaining to traffic diversion, illumination and arrangement of drinking water among others.
