Crime rate dips in Nizamabad, but drunken driving cases go up

Hyderabad: Nizamabad district registered a dip in crime rate in 2021 compared to 2020, Commissioner of Police KR Nagaraju said on Tuesday. The district, however, registered 566.56 per cent increase in drunken driving cases in 2021 compared to 2020.

Speaking at the annual press conference, he said as many as 44 murders took place in 2021 registering an increase of seven murders as against 37 in 2020 and 31 in 2019.
There were 110 less number of bodily offences this year while cases pertaining to attempt to murder, rape and rioting also registered a downward trend in 2021. He said 48 attempt to murder cases were reported in 2021 as against 49 in 2020 and 55 in 2019.


A total of 37 rape cases were reported in 2021 compared to 40 in 2020 and 62 in 2019. The district registered only 19 rioting cases as against 27 in 2020 and 36 in 2019. In all, 788 bodily offences were reported in 2021 compared to 898 in 2020 and 815 in 2019, he said.

He said the district registered a four per cent increase in property offences”, especially automobile theft cases. Out of Rs 3.08 crore worth property lost in various thefts in 2021, the police recovered property worth over Rs 1.83 crore registering 59.54 per cent recovery rate.

Referring to road accidents, the Police Commissioner said Nizamabad registered 1.62 per cent decrease in fatal accidents. As many as 302 accidents took place in the district in 2021 resulting in the death of 310 people.

In 2020, 331 people lost their lives in 307 accidents. Nagaraju said the cases reported under crime against women came down in 2021. Around 358 cases pertaining to crime against women mostly dowry deaths, dowry harassment, molestation and eve-teasing were registered in 2021 as against 443 in 2020 and 532 in 2019.
