Hyderabad: To increase the green cover as a part of Telangana Ku Haritha Haram (TKHH), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is developing greenery along all the 185 lakes in its limits. Saplings are also being planted on Shikam lands and other water bodies including ponds.

On Saturday, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar visited the Malka Cheruvu in Upperpally, Rajendra Nagar and oversaw the model plantation taken up at the lake. Near the lake, around 30 types of saplings are being grown, under multi-layer plantation model, medicinal, herbal, flower yielding and saplings available locally, are being grown.

“Under THKK, not even a small plot should be left out where saplings are not planted. Across all the lakes, plants should be grown on the lines of the model plantation taken up at Malka Cheruvu. Soon as the water level decreases, Barringtonia should be planted near lakes,” said the Chief Secretary.

Somesh Kumar was accompanied by GHMC commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of civic body’s Urban Bio-Diversity wing, V Krishna, and GHMC Zonal Commissioner, Charminar, Ashok Samrat.
