CSE seat under management quota priced at whopping Rs.25 lakh in Hyderabad

Cashing on the demand, some top private engineering institutions priced a CSE seat between Rs.18 lakh and Rs.25 lakh, leaving parents flabbergasted. In addition, parents must shell out annual tuition fees and transportation charges, if any.

Hyderabad: A computer science and engineering (CSE) programme seat cost under the management quota (B-Category) in the private engineering colleges touched an unprecedented level this year.

Cashing on the demand, some top private engineering colleges in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits have reportedly priced a CSE seat between Rs.18 lakh and Rs.25 lakh.


For instance, a famous engineering college in Medchal-Malkajgiri district fixed the CSE seat cost at a staggering Rs.25 lakh while a prominent women’s engineering colleges is charging a CSE seat for Rs. 18 lakh and another one is selling a seat for Rs.13 lakh.

In addition to the donation fee, candidates joining under the management quota must shell out an annual tuition fee, which is expected to go up this year, apart from transportation charges. All expenses combined, the total cost to complete a four-year CSE programme could range between Rs.25 to Rs. 32 lakh.

“My son got around 60,000 rank in the TG EAPCET and we are not expecting a CSE seat in a good college. So we are looking for the management seat, which is extremely expensive. One college, which priced a CSE seat at Rs.10 lakh before TG EAPCET results, increased it to Rs.13 lakh post results,” said Vaijunath, a parent from Zaheerabad.

Despite the exorbitant fees, there appears to be no intervention from the State government to regulate the B-category admissions. The Telangana Council of Higher Education recently proposed online admissions for the management quota seats, fixing the tuition fee up to three times the convenor quota fee. However, the government is yet to take a decision on the proposal.

Private engineering colleges employ consultants for admissions in management quota

This time, the private engineering colleges have employed consultants for admitting students in the management quota. The consultants are reaching out to prospective students and their parents offering management seats.

This move is aimed at discouraging parents from visiting the campuses directly and to avoid potential backlash from student associations, which have been vocal against the non-transparent handling of management quota seats.

Admissions under management quota begin before notification

Even before the admission notification was issued, the private engineering colleges commenced admitting students under the management quota. In fact, some top colleges began the process a day after the TG EAPCET results were declared on May 11.

As per rules, 70 percent seats in private engineering colleges come under convener quota, which are filled by the government, and the remaining 30 percent of seats can be filled by the management following due procedure.

According to rules, B-category seats admissions should begin only after the convenor quota process is completed. The TGCHE mandates that colleges must issue notifications in three widely circulated newspapers, detailing the number of management and NRI quota seats available by branch, along with the application procedure, tuition fees, registration charges, and deadlines.

Colleges are also required to accept applications both online and offline and publish the list on their websites and notice boards. Selection list must be prepared separately based on the order merit with first preference is given to JEE Main rank holders followed by EAPCET ranks, and intermediate marks. Admissions should strictly follow the merit. However, barring a few, these regulations are being violated by most colleges.
