Hyderabad: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Information Technology (IT)-related programmes continue to be the top career choices for students at the undergraduate level.

An indication of this can be seen from the seat allotments during the final phase of engineering admission counselling through the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) 2021.

The future being all about artificial intelligence and machine learning, students appear keen to make a career of them. All 139 seats in the artificial intelligence course have been allotted in the final phase of counselling. Similarly, no seat was left vacant in computer engineering, and computer science and technology programmes.

Students who participated in the final phase of engineering admissions counselling were allotted convenor quota seats on Friday.

According to the details released by the Department of Technical Education, the CSE programme remained the top pick by candidates with 95.98 per cent seats being allocated out of 19,101 seats this year. Students also lined up to join the information technology course with 94.13 per cent seats being allotted while there were 5,350 seats.

Candidates were also keen on making a career in the CSE-Data Science programme and accordingly several of them have opted for the course in counselling. Out of 4,320 seats, 90.56 per cent seats were allocated. In all, 44,069 seats available in CSE and IT-related programmes, 39,614 (89.89 per cent) were allotted leaving 4,455 vacant.

Among the Electronics and Electrical Engineering-related programmes, the Electronics and Communication Engineering programme had 77.46 per cent seat allotments out of 14,210 seats, while the Electrical and Electronics Engineering course attracted a meagre number of students with only 46.14 per cent seats allotted as against 7,142 seats available. Overall, out of 21,859 seats in electronics and electrical-related programmes, 67.33 per cent of seats were allotted.

From allotment details, conventional Civil and Mechanical Engineering programmes seem to have lost sheen. In the Civil Engineering programme, only 41.87 per cent of seats out of 6,243 were assigned. Similarly, out of 5,902 seats, 32.57 per cent were allotted to students who opted for the same. In all engineering programmes, 75.18 per cent of seats out of 79,790 seats in 175 engineering colleges were allocated to students.

In the case of pharmacy admissions for MPC stream students, out of 3,838 B Pharmacy seats in 118 colleges, 176 seats were allotted. Likewise, 7.65 per cent of seats were allocated while there were 588 Pharm D seats in 55 Pharmacy colleges.

Students who have been provisionally allotted seats must pay the tuition fee on or before November 15. The provisional seat allotment order automatically stands cancelled if students fail to pay the amount or self-report online or report at the allotted college on or before November 16.
