CSIR-IICT scientist S Venkata Mohan elected as Fellow of INSA
CSIR-IICT Chief Scientist Dr S Venkata Mohan, currently Director of CSIR-NEERI, has been elected a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy. He was recognised for his contributions to environmental engineering, biotechnology and sustainability, including resource recovery and circular systems.

Hyderabad: Dr S Venkata Mohan, Chief Scientist from Hyderabad-based CSIR–Indian Institute of Chemical Technology and presently Director, CSIR–National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), Nagpur, has been elected a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).
Dr Venkata Mohan’s election to the Academy is a significant acknowledgement of his sustained scientific contributions, particularly in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology and Sustainability Engineering, a statement from IICT on Thursday said.
Dr Mohan’s research has focused on developing innovative, science-driven and sustainable approaches to address complex environmental challenges. He helped frame environmental challenges as opportunities for resource recovery and value creation, integrating engineering, biotechnology and sustainability to enable more resource-efficient, low-carbon and circular systems.
A prolific researcher, Dr Mohan has authored more than 450 peer-reviewed scientific articles, a monograph, a book, 60 book chapters, and five edited volumes. He holds 16 patents and has mentored 47 doctoral scholars.
