Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Commissionerate comprising the IT companies in Madhapur zone, engineering colleges and industrial area in Balanagar zone and rural areas and new growth areas in Shamshabad zone are often in news for drug related issues, including ganja. Keen on weeding out the menace with the help of citizens and other departments, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra shares his plans with Telangana Today.
Dealing with drug related cases
Our strategy is to curb the street sale of drugs, whether it is ganja or any other one. If we are successful here, it automatically will have impact on the supply and smuggling and ultimately will impact the organised gangs.
Surveillance on drug cartels
We are profiling the end users and ganja peddlers so as to have better understanding. A detailed profile is being prepared with all “5 W’s and 1 H’s” to have a comprehensive data about them for initiating action and surveillance.
Hotspots for sale of marijuana and drugs
Our teams have identified the hotspots where drugs are sold or exchanged. Teams in civilian clothes are maintaining surveillance at such places. Based on the information generated, we are initiating action like carrying out raids and other enforcement.
Follow up after arrests
Field officials have been briefed to build a water tight case against offenders. All evidences are gathered and a senior official monitors the progress of the trail. We will ensure smugglers and peddlers get punishment through courts and the judgments act as deterrent to others involved.
Collaborating with NGOs, citizens
We are already working with NGOs and other government departments. I recently met the officials of Drug Control Administration to discuss about drug abuse. The citizens on their part should also share information about any such illegal activity.
