Glasgow: India’s boxers continued their golden run at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with Ankush Panghal and Sachin Siwach winning gold medals in the men’s 80kg and 60kg categories respectively, capping another memorable day in the ring on Saturday.

Ankush produced a composed and clinical display to defeat England’s Shittu Dimeji by a 4-1 split decision in the men’s 80kg final. After conceding the opening round on most judges’ scorecards, the Indian boxer fought back impressively with aggressive combinations and sharp counter-attacks to dominate the remaining rounds.

Three judges scored the contest 29-26 in Ankush’s favour, while the other two returned close 28-27 verdicts, one for each boxer. The victory underlined Ankush’s composure under pressure as he outclassed the home favourite to clinch the gold medal.

Earlier, Sachin Siwach captured the men’s 60kg title after edging Namibia’s Tryagain Morni Ndevelo by a 3-2 split decision in one of the closest contests of the boxing competition.

The Indian matched his opponent punch for punch throughout the three rounds before doing just enough to earn the verdict from three of the five judges. His tactical discipline, resilience and calmness under pressure helped him remain unbeaten throughout the competition and secure the title.

The two victories completed an outstanding campaign for Indian boxing, with the contingent finishing the day with nine medals — seven gold and two silver.

Apart from Ankush and Sachin, Arundhati Choudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar and Jaismine Lamboria also won gold medals, while Lovlina Borgohain and Jadumani Singh settled for silver.

The rich haul from the boxing ring, coupled with India’s one-two finish in the men’s Shot Put F57 and a bronze medal in judo, propelled the country to fourth place in the Commonwealth Games medals table.

India’s overall tally now stands at 35 medals — 11 gold, 16 silver and eight bronze.
