Hyderabad: A Pride Day was organised for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community at the Cyberabad Police Commissioner’s Office here on Monday. Around 150 members from the community participated.
“To prevent human trafficking, a special unit has been set up in Cyberabad in September last year, through which so far 23 cases were booked and 74 traffickers nabbed apart from rescuing 57 children and women,” Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said, adding that the Transgenders Desk set up by the Cyberabad Police was the first of its kind in India.
The Commissioner, who urged transgender persons to come forward and join skilling programmes, also warned them against getting involved in illegal activities.
Women and Children Safety Wing DCP C Anasuya, appreciating the good work done by the helpdesk, said transgender persons facing any issue within their community or outside could approach the helpdesk by sending WhatsApp messages to – 9490617121 or directly walk in to the helpdesk or Dial 100 or e-mail to transgender.cybsuprt121@gmail.
Transgender persons who exceled in their fields were felicitated on the occasion.
