Hyderabad: A seven-member gang involved in a dacoity at Shankerpally was arrested by the Cyberabad police and Rs 17.50 lakh in cash was recovered from them on Saturday.

The arrested are Madhu Kasula (27), Thelapuram Vijay Kumar (35), Mohd Azhar (44), Salin Harshavardhan (29), Shameem Mulla (26), Bandra Anudeep (25) and, Cherukula Deepak (25).

According to the police, on Friday, around 11.30 am, a person, Sai Baba, reached Vikarabad from the city and collected Rs 40 lakh in cash from a person. While they were returning back, three persons in another car rammed into their vehicle and beat up Sai Baba and snatched away the cash bag containing Rs 40 lakh, said Cyberabad Police Commissioner, Avinash Mohanty

The police formed special teams to identify and nab the suspects. Mohanty said, “We nabbed the suspects within 24 hours and recovered Rs 17.50 lakh from them.” The prime suspect, Madhu, is a cab driver and Sai Baba, who has been availing his services regularly, had called him to drive down to Vikarabad. Being aware of Sai Baba’s work nature, Madhu hatched a plan and roped in his friends Vijay, Azhar and Harsha.

Harsha, in turn, took a car belonging to his friend Anudeep and also hired two others, Deepak and Shameem Mulla, to commit dacoity, said Avinash Mohanty. While returning from Vikarabad after Sai Baba collected the cash and when the car reached Hussainpur village gate, Shankerpally, Madhu alerted Harsha, Deepak and Shameem Mullah, who stopped and looted the car. “Madhu, who was with Sai Baba, kept quiet and did not resist the dacoity,” said the Cyberabad CP.

Harsha, along with his two associates, then fled away in the car towards Hyderabad. However, on the way, the car overturned. Azhar and Vijay, who were following Harsha in another car, immediately rescued Harsha, Deepak and Shameem Mullah and took them along. The police nabbed them with the help of Sangareddy district police and Shadnagar police managed to nab the seven persons.
