Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Cybercrime officials solved 10 major cases and arrested 21 offenders operating across multiple States in a week-long crackdown carried out between November 19 and 25.
Of the arrested suspects, 13 were involved in trade frauds and seven were linked to ‘digital arrest’ frauds which enabled the return of Rs 89.7 lakh to victims, by securing 165 refund orders in 49 cases.
In a significant case, the Cyberabad Police rescued a retired elderly citizen who was cheated to the tune of Rs 70 lakh in a sophisticated ‘digital arrest’ fraud.
Fraudsters posing as Delhi Police and CBI officials contacted the victim over WhatsApp video calls, threatened him with false allegations, isolated him from his family, and coerced him into transferring his deposits under the guise of ‘RBI verification’.
