Hyderabad: A dentist, who was allegedly kidnapped from his clinic in Rajendranagar on Tuesday, was rescued by the Cyberabad Police within 12 hours. The police arrested seven persons while six suspects including the kingpin of the episode are absconding.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said 12 teams comprising more than 100 officers from different units of the Cyberabad Police were involved in the rescue operation. A little after midnight, with the assistance of police from Andhra Pradesh, the gang was caught and the victim, Behjath Hussain, was found gagged in a car by the Anantapur police.
The arrested persons were identified as Sumit Chandrakanth Bhosale (28) of Pune, Akshay Balu Vairekar (24) of Pune, Vicky Datta Shindle (20) of Pune, Mohd Raheem (18) of Chandrayangutta in Hyderabad, Mohd Imran (21) of Kukatpally, Mohd Irfan of Kukatpally and Sanjay of Udupi in Karnataka. Those absconding were Mustafa, Ganesh, Mubashir Ahmed alias Khaled, Puneet, Prithvi and Siri.
Announcing the arrest of the gang, Sajjanar said Mustafa and Mubashir Ahmed had planned to kidnap the dentist after knowing about his financial position.
“Mustafa is a relative of the family and got close to the family after getting a flat in the building for Mubashir Ahmed. They then hired Raheem to work as a domestic help in Mubashir’s flat but assigned him the task of keeping a watch on the dentist. Similarly Mustafa and Mubashir gathered people from different areas and gave them the task of kidnapping the doctor and shifting him to Karnataka,” he said, adding that Mustafa had promised a handsome amount from the ransom to the other suspects.
Dental doctor Behjath Hussain was found gagged in a car by the police.
On Tuesday afternoon, on being alerted by Raheem, four members of the gang Sumit, Akshay, Vicky and Salman went inside the clinic wearing burkhas. “They threatened the dentist with a toy pistol. The technician was gagged and locked in the washroom,” Sajjanar said, adding that the gang then bundled Hussain into a car and took him to Kukatpally Yellamabanda and confined him there till evening. “In the evening, the gang handed him over to another team comprising Sanjay, Puneet, Siri, Prithvi, who were to take him to Karnataka,” said Sajjanar, informing that meanwhile, Mubashir send an audio message morphing his voice and demanding a ransom of Rs 10 crore or gold worth the amount, apart from threatening to kill the family members if they approached the police.
Relatives, however, approached the police, after which all police stations in the State were alerted and help was sought from police in the neighbouring States too. By midnight, the car was tracked down and Hussain was rescued from the kidnappers at Anantapur, Sajjanar said, adding that Mustafa and Mubashir were earlier in Australia and were involved in a fraud case there too.
Appeal
The Cyberabad Police appealed to the public not to disclose their financial status while dealing with unknown persons and not to get into financial dealings with unknown persons. It also advised public to verify antecedents of tenants before renting out properties and also to install CCTV cameras in the common area in the house and outside.
