Hyderabad: In just three months, between January and March, the Cyberabad region has reported a total of 829 road accidents, with motorcyclists and pedestrians being high among the victims.
These accidents have resulted in 122 deaths and 710 non-fatal injuries, and also bringing the total number of people injured to 624.
The Traffic Zone-II, which covers areas including Miyapur, Kukatpally, KPHB, Balanagar, Medchal and Jeedimetla recorded the highest number of road accidents with 551 incidents, 93 deaths, 90 fatal injuries, and 461 non-fatal injuries.
On the other hand, Traffic Zone-I which covers key areas including Madhapur, Raidurgam, Gachibowli and Narsingi recorded 278 road accidents, resulting in 29 deaths, 29 fatal injuries and the total number of injured to 194.
According to the Cyberabad Police, motorcyclists were the most severely affected category of road users, accounting for 355 accidents, 50 fatalities and 281 non-fatal injuries, making motorcyclists the largest group of accident victims.
Likewise, car or taxi accidents were also significant, with 200 incidents reported.
Pedestrians were a highly vulnerable category, involved in 203 accidents where 39 lost their lives and 180 were injured.
Overall, these two categories, motorcyclists and pedestrians accounted for nearly 67 per cent of the total road accidents in Cyberabad region.
The Cyberabad Police has highlighted the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, wearing helmets, and using pedestrian crossings.
A senior traffic police official said, “The data reveals disturbing trends where motorcyclists are the most vulnerable group followed by pedestrians. We are requesting the citizens to adhere to traffic rules, wear helmets, and use pedestrian crossings properly to bring down these numbers. Our enforcement efforts will be strengthened to curb these accidents.”
With checks to be intensified by increasing traffic enforcement, deploying more checkpoints, and conducting awareness campaigns on road safety and fatalities, the traffic police hope to bring down the accident and fatalities.
“We are committed to intensifying our enforcement efforts and creating awareness among the public about road safety. We urge all drivers and pedestrians to cooperate,” the senior official said.
