Cyberabad traffic police plan dedicated carriageway from JNTU to Raidurgam

Cyberabad Traffic Police are examining a dedicated carriageway between JNTU and Synchrony at Raidurgam Metro Station to ease peak-hour congestion. Police have also urged IT firms to adopt staggered timings, carpooling, dedicated pick-up bays and centralised buses to reduce traffic.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police are examining a proposal to create a dedicated carriageway for IT employees and regular commuters travelling from JNTU towards Synchrony at Raidurgam Metro Station, aiming to ease weekday peak-hour congestion along the busy corridor.

The proposed arrangement is intended to provide smoother and safer movement for employees heading towards the IT hub and reduce conflicts between vehicles travelling to different destinations.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Cyberabad, Sunpreet Singh had recently reviewed traffic arrangements at Raidurgam and Gachibowli, focusing on U-turns, free-left movements and points where traffic streams merge or conflict. The traffic police conducted a field inspection of the road connecting JNTU with Synchrony at Raidurgam Metro Station, which falls under KPHB and Madhapur Traffic Police Stations.

Additional DCP (Traffic-I) G Hanumantha Rao said, “One of the proposals being examined is a separate carriageway for IT employees travelling from JNTU towards Synchrony (Raidurgam) Metro Station. The move is aimed at providing smoother movement along the corridor, which experiences heavy traffic during weekday peak hours.”

The local traffic officials will examine the feasibility of the proposed changes and take up measures to improve road safety, reduce bottlenecks and ensure smoother movement along the busy IT corridor, Rao said.

“The JNTU–Raidurgam stretch witnesses heavy traffic from Monday to Friday, resulting in delays and congestion at several points. The proposed carriageway is also expected to streamline traffic movement and reduce conflicts between vehicles heading towards different destinations,” the DCP said.

Police seek corporate reforms to ease IT corridor traffic:

With traffic congestion intensifying along the IT corridors, the Cyberabad Traffic Police have urged IT companies and other business establishments here to overhaul employee transport and traffic management practices.

Police have identified cabs and autos waiting outside office gates, single-occupancy vehicles and concentrated peak hour movements as key causes of congestion.

The recommendations were discussed at a stakeholder meeting including representatives of the IT sector. “Companies were asked to create internal pick-up and drop-off bays and prevent commercial vehicles from occupying public roads,” Hanumantha Rao said, adding that already some companies started following it.

The police also pushed for carpooling, priority parking for shared vehicles and centralised corporate buses operating from major residential clusters rather than multiple low-occupancy shuttles run by individual companies.

IT firms have further been advised to introduce staggered login and logout timings to spread traffic across peak hours.
