Cybercrime cops duped: Two Rachakonda inspectors lose Rs 43 lakh to online scams
In a rare incident, two cybercrime police inspectors from Rachakonda were cheated in separate online fraud cases involving fake TTD tickets and a bogus stock trading scheme, losing nearly Rs 43 lakh. Police have launched investigations.
Hyderabad: In an ironic turn of events, two police inspectors from Rachakonda Police Cybercrime wing have reportedly fallen victim to sophisticated online fraud, losing substantial amounts of money in separate incidents.
In the first case, cyber fraudsters cheated an inspector of Rs 4 lakh by promising to arrange Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) darshan tickets. Trusting the offer made online, the inspector transferred the amount, only to later realise that it was a well-planned fraud.
In the second incident, another inspector was lured into a fake stock trading investment scheme. The fraudsters added him to a so-called stock market investment group and convinced him that he would earn high returns. Over time, the inspector reportedly transferred nearly Rs 39 lakh before discovering that he had been deceived.
After realising the fraud, they lodged complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and also approached the Rachakonda Cybercrime Police for further investigation. Police have registered separate cases and taken up an investigation. Efforts are on to identify the suspects.
