Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have registered two cases against the India head of Meta and several social media account holders over the alleged circulation of morphed and defamatory content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The cases were booked after a complaint was filed by Telangana BJP social media members, who alleged that multiple Facebook and Instagram accounts were sharing manipulated images and objectionable posts aimed at defaming the Prime Minister. They requested the police to identify those behind the accounts, preserve digital evidence and initiate legal action.

Based on the complaint, the cases were booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Cybercrime officials are now tracing the origin of the posts, identifying the individuals who created and shared the content, and examining the role of the social media platform in the alleged dissemination of the material.

Police officials said the investigation is under way and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.

No arrests have been made so far.
