Hyderabad: A cyclist, who was seriously injured when a car hit him at Serlingampally in Gachibowli on Friday, died while undergoing treatment here on Saturday.
Nithin Agarwal (44), a software employee, along with his two friends, Suchith Srivatsav and Rajeev, decided to take up a 100-km cycle ride and started from their homes on their bicycles.
According to police, the trio cycled through Gachibowli, Anjaiah Nagar, Botanical Garden in Kondapur and Hyderabad Central University. When they reached near Paala Pitta Cycling Park, a Maruti Swift Dzire car being driven by one Shashank Shankar (24), hit Nithin’s cycle.
In the impact, Nithin sprung in the air and fell amidst the bushes on the roadside. He suffered grievous bleeding injuries and was shifted to a private hospital in Gachibowli. “His condition was critical and he died on Saturday,” said an official.
The Gachibowli police who earlier booked a case of negligence causing injuries are expected to alter the section to that of culpable homicide nor amounting to murder. They suspect Shashank was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Shashank and Maanav, both working as cabin crew in an airliner are residents of Masjid Banda. They, along with another friend Srikanth, allegedly had a liquor party at Shashank’s house and then ventured on a joy ride in search of an eatery.
They were proceeding from Madhapur towards Botanical Garden when Shashank lost control of the steering wheel and hit Nithin. The car then crashed into a tree.
Based on a complaint from Suchith Srivatsav, the Gachibowli police booked a case and took up investigation.
