Cyclone ‘Montha’ impact: Water levels rise in twin reservoirs
After heavy overnight rains, water levels rose sharply in Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. HMWSSB officials opened the floodgates for the second day to release surplus water into the Musi River and are monitoring inflows closely to ensure public safety
Hyderabad: Following heavy rains in the catchment areas overnight, the twin reservoirs of Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar recorded a considerable rise in water levels on Wednesday.
The HMWSSB authorities were on high alert, monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding areas. The water board had already issued flood warnings and advisories to keep the public informed and prepared for any potential emergencies.
The authorities opened the floodgates of the twin reservoirs for the second consecutive day on Wednesday and released surplus floodwater into the River Musi. “We are closely monitoring the water levels, which are rising incredibly in the twin reservoirs. Based on the inflows, the number of gates will be increased further,” a senior official said.
