Cyclone Montha intensifies; IMD issues red alert for heavy rains in Telangana

Hyderabad: ‘Montha’ intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm over west-central Bay of Bengal on Tuesday could cause heavy rains in several districts of Telangana.
The Met Department, in its forecast for three days looked at the possibilities of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in some districts, in most districts and issued a red alert for Tuesday.
For Wednesday, the forecast is of heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in isolated places in several districts, including Adilabad, Karimnagar, Mulugu, Khammam and Warangal districts, with an orange alert issued. A yellow alert with the possibility of heavy rains is for some other districts, including Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Jangaon, Siddipet and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.
The IMD forecast for Thursday suggests heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, and Nirmal districts. Also, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur at isolated places in Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts.
Forecast for Hyderabad:
Meanwhile, Hyderabad and neighbouring districts for the next two days is expected to have a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied with gusty winds. The morning and night hours are likely to have misty and hazy conditions.
Given the prevailing weather conditions, the mercury has also dropped in the city and suburbs and the IMD forecasts the maximum and minimum temperatures to be around 30 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius.
