Daily wage labourer dies by suicide; bank staff harassment alleged

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A man died, allegedly by suicide, after he was reportedly harassed by staffers of a bank for repayment of a loan at Shivapur village in Sirpur (T) mandal on Tuesday. The incident came to light on Wednesday.
Family members said Karam Santosh (29), a daily wage labourer from the village resorted to the drastic step by consuming pesticide. They alleged that Santosh was harassed by the staffers of a cooperative bank for repayment of a loan of Rs 30,000 availed by him seven years ago.
They claimed that he had repaid a portion of the loan, but the staffers and manager of the bank threatened to lock the house if he did not clear the remaining loan. Santosh left home after being threatened. He was found lying unconscious near their house. He was immediately shifted to a hospital in the town, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Based on a complaint received from Jyothi, the wife of Santosh, a case was registered. Investigations were taken up.
