Daily wagers’ son sets example, secures seat at RGUKT Basar
Raju, with a score of 107, was selected for admission into the institute in the first phase of counselling for which notification was released on Thursday
JD Foundation members felicitated a student P Bala Raju who secured admission in IIIT Basar, at Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem district on Friday.
Kothagudem: Punugupati Bala Raju, who is the son of daily wage labourers’ at Bhadrachalam has secured admission in Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) in Basar. Raju, with a score of 107, was selected for admission into the institute in the first phase of counselling for which notification was released on Thursday. His parents — Rambabu and Vijayalakshmi work as daily wage labourers.
He scored 10 out of 10 marks and was ranked 197th in the recent Polycet and 123rd rank in the Agricultural Polytechnic entrance examination. The office bearers and members of the JD Foundation who learnt about his achievement visited his house on Friday and felicitated him. The foundation’s erstwhile Khammam convener K Murali Mohan Kumar, speaking on the occasion, said Bala Raju proved that with hard work, one can conquer poverty and excel in life.
On behalf of the foundation, all possible assistance would be extended to the student in the coming days, he said, adding that if students like Bala Raju are encouraged to pursue higher education, they would be able to settle down that would benefit the community in the long run. Bhadrachalam Chambers of Commerce office-bearer Kambhampati Suresh Kumar handed over an amount of Rs 2,000 to the student as a gift. Bala Raju said his parents encouraged him to study well despite their rather poor economic conditions. JD Foundation members Vemuri Hansi, Vemuri Pawan Kumar, Kadali Nagraj, Yusuf Miya and Shankar Rao were present.
