Huzurabad: Nampalli Rajender, a daily wage earner, was used to waiting in street corners every day to be engaged by someone for work. His entire life changed overnight literally when he became the proud owner of a dairy unit, thanks to the Telangana Dalit Bandhu scheme launched by the State government for economic and social empowerment of the deprived section of society.
Rajender, a native of Shanigaram, Kamalapur mandal of Warangal urban district, was among the 15 Dalits who received proceeding orders from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on August 16, when the scheme was launched near Shalapalli in Huzurabad Assembly constituency.
Since Rajender has previous experience in rearing buffalos, he opted for dairy business and purchased four buffaloes at a cost of Rs four lakh from the Rs 10 lakh he got under the scheme. The Animal Husbandry department officials brought four buffaloes from Haryana and handed them over to Rajender on September 29.
Besides purchasing medicine and fodder costing Rs one lakh, a cattle shed was also constructed at a cost of Rs one lakh. Every day, Rajender gets 10 litres of milk from each buffalo. Presently, only two buffaloes are giving milk. Keeping aside litres for family consumption, Rajender has been selling the remaining 18 litres to Karimnagar Dairy at Rs 70 per litre.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Rajender said: “I never thought that I would get Rs 10 lakh. My life changed only because of Dalit Bandhu scheme. Earlier, I used to work as a construction worker and would not get work regularly. I used to wait for work every day. The problem is solved now. I earn sufficient money selling milk.” He thanked the Chief Minister for sanctioning Rs 10 lakh under Dalit Bandhu scheme.
Stating that were was another Rs 4 lakh still left in his bank account, Rajender said he will take a decision on buying four more buffaloes based on the success of his dairy unit.
