Karimnagar: Dalit organisations across the erstwhile Karimnagar district expressed strong anger against BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar for his alleged objectionable comments against his Cabinet colleague and SC, ST and Minorities Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar.
Members of various Dalit groups held protest demonstrations and burnt effigies of the Minister at several places. Activists of the SC, ST Welfare Association staged a dharna at Mancherial Chowk on Tuesday, raising slogans against Prabhakar.
Addressing the gathering, protesters criticised the BC Welfare Minister for making derogatory remarks against a Dalit leader and demanded an unconditional apology. They warned that Prabhakar would be obstructed from attending public programmes if he failed to apologise.
Dalit activists also burnt Prabhakar’s effigy in Dharmapuri and reiterated their demand for an apology, warning that the agitation would be intensified if he failed to respond.
Meanwhile, MRPS district president Bejjenki Anil warned that they would attack Prabhakar’s residence on Thursday if he did not apologise within 24 hours. He said protests would also be organised in Prabhakar’s Husnabad constituency.
