Medak: Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi (KVPS) and other Dalit organisations staged a protest at the Medak Collectorate on Thursday, demanding action against Konaipally sarpanch Manne Kalyan and his followers, accusing them of attacking Dalits in the village on Saddula Bathukamma day.
Citing Section 37 of the Panchayat Raj Act, the Dalit organisations also demanded the sarpanch’s removal from the post and the registration of a case against him under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. They further demanded the suspension of the Konaipally Panchayat Secretary for allegedly supporting the sarpanch and his followers.
The leaders of the Dalit organisations said similar discrimination against Dalits was reported in different villages in Shivvampet and Toopran on Bathukamma day.
Later, they submitted a representation to DRO Ambadas Rajeshwar, who assured them that he would conduct an inquiry into the incident along with the Toopran RDO.
