Hyderabad: The headquarters of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, known as ‘Darussalam’, was a beehive of activity since morning on Friday, with the cadre descending in large numbers.
All eyes were glued to a blackboard put up at the office on which a party functionary would write the seats won by the party as and when the updates reached the office. Each time the figures changed, the jubilant crowd raised slogans in support of the party and its leaders. This was an age-old practice at the party office and is repeated every election, an old-timer said.
Several important leaders of the party and sympathisers were seated in the sprawling playground of the Darussalam, noting down the updates of the election results available on different news channels.
News crews of various channels and local print media journalists were also seen waiting for a briefing from the party functionaries about the latest developments. Towards evening a festival atmosphere prevailed as AIMIM candidates who emerged victorious started reaching the party headquarters along with their supporters. Slogans of ‘AIMIM Zindabad’ rent the air as the crowd swelled in the night and the party office was packed with party supporters. Party workers from neighbouring districts also came to join the celebrations.
